Do I Need New Smoke Detectors?

You can hope you never need them, but smoke detectors should be there to save your life in dire circumstances. The National Fire Protection Association recommends that you go beyond the basic smoke detector requirements with hardwired, interconnected smoke alarms throughout the home.

Asset Electric Corp has been installing smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors across Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan for 6 years, backed by our founder’s 22 years of hands-on electrical experience. We are fully licensed (NYC License #13207), bonded, and insured. We install hardwired, interconnected smoke and CO detector systems in homes, apartments, rental properties, and commercial buildings throughout New York City. Call (929) 340-1108 for a free same-day estimate.

CO Detectors and Smoke Detectors

Local and state laws require smoke alarms in a variety of places. Every bedroom needs one, as well as hallways, kitchens, staircases, and a number of other areas.

If you’re relying on old battery-powered smoke alarms, you should upgrade to a wired smoke detector system. This protects you 24/7/365 without the annoying beeping of a low-battery alarm. Wired smoke detectors do have a backup battery in place for double coverage, but you simply need to test them occasionally and change them when needed.

To protect against potentially fatal gas exposure, you should also have carbon monoxide alarms installed. Even if your New York home does not have gas appliances, your furnace and other equipment may produce carbon monoxide. Unsafe levels, or a full-blown leak, can be deadly.

CO and Smoke Detectors Installations

Consider new smoke detector installation in any of these situations:

– After home remodeling.
– After converting a spare room to a bedroom.
– When your smoke alarms are more than 10 years old.
– If your smoke alarm has failed a test.

Don’t Forget Carbon Monoxide Detectors!

We install carbon monoxide detectors in New York and buildings in the same places as smoke alarms, as well as near HVAC equipment. For effective protection, CO alarms should be away from vents and in locations where they can pick up gas levels in the air you breathe.

You are in the right place!

Here on the Asset Electric Corp Team, there are well trained and licensed electricians who can help with the installation of the electrical panel. They provide services to both commercial and residential properties in the New York area.

Our licensed electricians arrive on time for your appointment. With minimal disruption to your daily routine, we inspect your current smoke and CO alarm system, make any necessary repairs, and advise you on placement and upgrades.

Asset Electric Corp — Smoke & CO Detector Installation in NYC

NYC Building Code and NYC Fire Code Requirements

New York City has strict requirements for smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Under NYC Local Law 62, all residential buildings must have hardwired, interconnected smoke detectors in every bedroom, outside every sleeping area, and on every level of the home including the basement. Battery-only smoke detectors do not comply with NYC code for new installations.

Carbon monoxide detectors are required in any home with gas appliances, oil or gas heating systems, attached garages, or fireplaces. CO detectors must be installed within 15 feet of every sleeping area and on every level of the home.

What We Install

Hardwired interconnected smoke detectors — when one alarm sounds, all alarms in the home sound simultaneously, giving everyone maximum warning time regardless of where the fire starts.

Combination smoke and CO detectors — space-saving dual-function units that meet both smoke and CO requirements in a single device.

Stand-alone carbon monoxide detectors — installed near HVAC equipment, gas appliances, and sleeping areas.

Smoke detectors with 10-year sealed batteries — for locations where hardwiring is not practical.

Commercial and multi-family smoke detector systems — we install and service fire alarm systems in apartment buildings, offices, and retail spaces throughout Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan.

Brands We Install

We install detectors from leading brands including Kidde, First Alert, Google Nest Protect, and Firex. We can recommend the right product for your specific situation and budget.

When to Replace Your Smoke Detectors

Smoke detectors should be replaced every 10 years — most homeowners don’t realize their detectors have expired. CO detectors should be replaced every 5-7 years. If your detectors are chirping, failing tests, or you don’t know how old they are, call us for an inspection and replacement.

All installations are completed to NYC Fire Code and NYC Building Code requirements with permits where required. We serve Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan. Call (929) 340-1108 for a free same-day estimate.
